Reportworq 6

What You Get by Moving to Reportworq 6

Product Update

Your Reportworq 5 jobs already run. Reports go out on schedule and your stakeholders get their numbers. So the fair question is what an upgrade actually buys you.

Version 6 keeps the reporting you built and changes the platform around it. Business AI now runs on Finance's terms. Security moves down to the folder and report level. The Excel add-in picks up charts and maps, and contribution gets a grid rebuilt for speed.

The sections below follow the same order as the V5 to V6 comparison guide.

Roles and security

In version 5, too much runs through the administrator. Someone needs to build a report or check a run, and the request lands on the same desk.

Version 6 splits access into three roles. Administrators manage the system. Authors build reports and jobs without touching system settings. Users log in to view output and run history.

Folder-level permissions keep one group's content away from another's. Secured Lists go further and scope data at the row and value level, so your regional controller sees their region and nothing past it. The same rules apply when someone queries report data through AI.

Want to confirm a permission works before someone reports a problem? Impersonate the user, see exactly what they see, then step back into your own session. A Hidden setting keeps work in progress out of the portal and out of AI queries until you are ready to publish.

SSL is on from first boot, with HTTPS and a self-signed certificate installed automatically.

Excel add-in

Your board pack probably needs a waterfall chart. Today someone builds that chart by hand after the job runs, and rebuilds it every time the numbers move.

Version 6 brings charting into the redesigned add-in. Waterfall and combo charts sit alongside the standard bar and line types, plus configurable maps. Charts refresh headlessly on scheduled runs, so the chart in your deck always matches the numbers in your report.

Data modeling is easier too. A companion pane and a list-report builder sit beside your workbook. You can import a published view instead of starting from scratch, and cell-driven variables let one cell control what a report pulls.

Reports can now run on SQL or API datasources, with MDX and DAX query support across more than 250 connectors. Heavier refreshes run in a separate worker, so one large job no longer slows down everything else.

PowerPoint add-in

Most board decks still get rebuilt by hand. Someone pastes the latest numbers into the slides each cycle, then checks every page again when a figure moves.

Version 6 brings a refreshed add-in pane to PowerPoint. Link any shape in an existing deck to your report data through one picker that steps from report to sheet to object. Charts and cell ranges land as pictures, and ranges can also come in as native PowerPoint tables. Text boxes can pull values straight from your cells.

Every linked shape refreshes on each scheduled run, so your board deck updates without anyone pasting in new screenshots.

Recipients open delivered decks as Users, and the separate PowerPoint End User entitlement folds into that role. When the job allows it, a User can refresh a deck from the job's run history. Folder permissions and Secured Lists decide which versions they see.

Decks linked through Alt-Text in version 5 still run, so nothing has to be rebuilt on day one.

AI enablement

Your team is already asking Copilot and Claude about the numbers. The risk is where those answers come from: a spreadsheet someone pasted in, with no record of who asked or what they saw.

Version 6 adds an MCP server that lets users query their own slice of report data through the Copilot or Claude your team already uses. Any MCP client works. Each job carries its own AI Context, so the agent reads your numbers the way your team defines them.

Agents can also hand back real files. Small outputs return inline. Larger ones arrive as secure, single-use download links or by email, and downloads can require sign-in. Users can preview an output before downloading.

Every AI interaction is logged, and every dollar of AI spend is audited. Five AI providers are supported, including IBM watsonx and Reportworq AI. A customizable Prompt Store holds your team's prompts, and AI-generated insights can go out as a distributable output of their own.

Distribution

Every period close, someone updates the current period in each job. Miss one and a cost center owner gets last month's numbers.

Global Parameters fix that. Define a value like the current period once, and every job in the workspace picks it up.

Finding things is faster as well. One role-scoped search box covers everything from reports to contacts. Editors open as tabs with real browser Back and Forward, and you can bookmark a deep link and send it to a colleague.

Markdown is now an output format alongside the existing Excel and PDF options.

Contribution

If your budget cycle has ever stalled because an input form took a minute to load, you know where contributors lose patience.

The contribution grid is rewritten from the ground up, and reports load dramatically faster. Spreading and data entry tools are built in, along with freeze panes and validation.

Each contribution session uses considerably less memory, so more contributors can work at the same time. Your admins get a form memory profiler to see where that memory goes, plus tools to load-test capacity before the cycle opens.

The campaign editor and approvals dashboard manage each cycle from open to close.

Platform and governance

If the person who knows your reporting process left tomorrow, could anyone reconstruct what ran last cycle?

Auditing now covers five log types, with AI and MCP activity tracked alongside job and contribution history. Each run has its own diagnostics view with logs and trace, and a support packet goes out in one step.

Retention controls let you keep everything or keep records for a set period, with soft delete and restore. Selection-based mass delete clears run history without the one-by-one slog.

Linux support arrives with an official Docker image, and load balancer support is improved.
